Chatbot Software Developer

What you would do

  • Develop, test and maintain the chatbot, its backend services and external integrations.
  • Translate research findings and user feedback into practical product improvements.
  • Improve reliability, performance, monitoring, privacy and security.
  • Support structured content, analytics and evaluation workflows.
  • Write clear technical documentation and contribute to technical decisions.
  • Help move the service responsibly from prototype testing towards wider use.

What you bring

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, software engineering or a closely related subject, or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Strong programming ability in at least one production language, such as Python or TypeScript.
  • Experience with backend development, APIs, databases, testing and version control.
  • A practical understanding of secure and responsible handling of user data.
  • Clear communication and the ability to work independently in a remote, interdisciplinary team.

Useful additional experience

  • Conversational AI, NLP, language models or retrieval-based systems.
  • WhatsApp, messaging-platform or communications APIs.
  • Cloud infrastructure, serverless systems, DevOps or observability.
  • Multilingual products, low-bandwidth environments or accessibility.
  • Taking research prototypes into reliable production services.

Partnerships & Pilot Programme Manager

Coordinate locally informed partnerships and turn pilot experience into practical improvements.

What you would do

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with implementation, research and community partners.
  • Co-design pilot objectives, plans, timelines, responsibilities and measures of success.
  • Coordinate pilot delivery, partner onboarding, communications, risks and follow-up activities.
  • Develop outreach, adoption and appropriate marketing plans with local partners.
  • Analyse quantitative and qualitative pilot results.
  • Prepare clear reports, recommendations and updates for partners and the project team.
  • Ensure feedback from partners and users informs product and programme decisions.

What you bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in international development, business, public policy, communications, social sciences or another relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience managing partnerships, programmes, pilots or multi-organisation projects.
  • Strong project planning, stakeholder communication and relationship-management skills.
  • Confidence analysing results and turning them into useful recommendations and reports.
  • Cultural awareness and an ability to work respectfully across countries, organisations and professional backgrounds.
  • Excellent organisation and dependable remote-working practices.

Useful additional experience

  • Work involving energy access, climate, digital services, international development, research or social-impact organisations.
  • Experience working with locally led organisations in one or more African countries.

  • A current student, recent graduate or early-career applicant with a genuine interest in Solar Chat’s mission.

  • A willingness to learn and take responsibility for agreed tasks.
  • Respect for different perspectives, local knowledge and responsible data practices.

Useful additional experience

  • Study or experience in computing, energy, international development, research, data, design, communications or a related field.
  • A relevant writing, research, design or technical sample.
  • Experience in solar energy is welcome but not required.
